Your engineering work.
Controlled by you.
Syqnal is a platform for sharing real engineering work — schematics, build logs, design decisions, and proof of skills. We take seriously that this work often has commercial value and NDA implications. This page explains exactly what we protect, how we protect it, and where the limits are.
Four levels of project visibility
Every project on Syqnal has a ghost level. You control it. It determines what non-owner viewers see — and our server enforces it on every request, not just in the UI.
Verified hiring managers can request access to a Ghost project. You approve or deny the request. If approved, access is time-limited — you set the expiry date. When the access window closes, the project returns to Ghost view automatically. Every view by an approved hiring manager is recorded in an audit log with their identity and the timestamp.
Honest about what we protect
We think it is important to be precise here. Ghost Tier is strong protection within the Syqnal platform. There are things outside our control.
Files are never publicly reachable
When you upload a schematic, CAD file, or 3D model through Syqnal, the file goes into a private storage bucket. There is no public URL. The file is not indexed, not guessable, and not accessible to anyone without going through our server.
When a company owns the IP
For work done during an internship, co-op, full-time employment, or contract, the IP typically belongs to the company. Ghost Tier alone is not enough — the engineer is not the right person to decide what gets disclosed. Syqnal solves this with a company-authorized disclosure model.
The engineer wants credit for real work. The company wants IP protected. A verified Skills Only credential satisfies both: the engineer has proof they did meaningful hardware work at a real company — without disclosing anything the company doesn't want disclosed. It also signals something else: this engineer can be trusted with confidential work.
Ghost Tier is enforced in portfolio exports
When a student shares a portfolio with an admissions officer, only Public projects are included. Ghost, Redacted, and Private projects are excluded from exports entirely. An admissions officer cannot access a student's protected projects through the export — even with the student's consent — unless the project is set to Public.
Every protected view is recorded
When any non-owner views a Ghost or Redacted project, Syqnal writes a record: who viewed it, when, what ghost level was in effect, and whether they accessed it through an approved hiring manager request. Project owners can see this log from their project settings.
For companies and employers
If your employees or interns want to credit their work on Syqnal, registering as a Verified Employer gives you direct control over what gets disclosed. You decide the level for each project request. You can revoke at any time.
